Over time, it has expanded all across the United States with support from nearly 450 manufacturers. The FAME program is like an apprenticeship on steroids. FAME students spend two full days each week at school and the other three days working for one of the program’s manufacturing sponsors. It’s a rigorous program, but students absolutely love it. Each year, the FAME National Conference offers a unique opportunity for professional growth and peer engagement. Participants attend dynamic sessions led by leaders from across the FAME network, who share examples of best practices across chapters. FAME USA National Director Tony Davis believes that “the Fame National Conference is an excellent opportunity to network with other members of the FAME USA network. Whether you’re an employer, manufacturer, community partner, or college partner, you have someone you can talk to that are in different stages of their FAME journey.” Stark points out that participants also include “students who are in the program right now. We get to meet those students and hear their experiences and stories and how this experience changed their entire life trajectory. For example, Amatrol’s Temperature Process Control training system teaches knowledge and skills essential for controlling and modifying the temperature of liquids and gases, which is essential for technicians who install, calibrate, operate, adjust, and tune thermal process control systems. The Temperature Process Control training system features an impressive variety of real-world components that users will encounter in the real world, including: a chiller that mechanically refrigerates the process fluid; three types of temperature sensors: thermocouple, thermistor, and RTD; a heating loop network; and an operator interface station. The training system’s industrial-quality components are mounted and plumbed in two water flow circuits: a process loop and a heating loop that controls the temperature of water flowing in the process loop. The system allows learners to observe what is happening inside the system, so they can evaluate the effects of external disturbances and their own adjustments. All electrical components are connected to the control panel to allow learners to measure signals and connect the devices in a wide variety of control configurations, including PID control, on/off control, and manual control. Learners will practice a variety of real-world skills, such as: control water temperature using a sensing bulb thermostat; connect and operate a loop controller in the manual mode; calibrate an I/P converter; connect and configure a temperature transmitter for a thermocouple; and configure and operate discrete inputs on a Honeywell UDC 3500 controller. The Temperature Process Control training system also features two options for expansion. The optional Three-Channel Data Acquisition Learning System (T5553-R1A) teaches the fundamentals of data acquisition. The optional Two-Channel Temperature Transmitter Module (T5553-T1) provides two additional temperature transmitter channels. With a trade, you can get a great job directly out of high school.” Launius explains that “for over ten years, One Southern Indiana, in collaboration with the Metro Manufacturing Alliance, has hosted Manufacturing Week to build an opportunity for students and industry to connect throughout the week in some really fun and authentic ways.” He adds that “when we look into the future, we see [manufacturing] as an industry that will continue to serve our region immensely, but a critical piece of that is the workforce and the next generation. There’s a need for this program.” That’s why the Wayne County Schools Career Center Adult Education HVAC program represents a major investment in the future of those interested in pursuing careers in the heating, ventilation, and air conditioning industry. For example, it features several wired and wireless sensors – including the Wireless Temperature/Humidity Sensor and the Current Transformer Sensor – that can be used to monitor external, real-world components and systems. The 990-SM10 also features OPC Unified Architecture (OPC UA) and MQ Telemetry Transport (MQTT), a PLC, several types of edge gateways, and a variety of on-premise and cloud-based infrastructure and applications that facilitate both OT and IT-centric use case development and training. Amatrol also partnered with industrial suppliers Rockwell Automation, Phoenix Contact, and 5G Technologies USA Ltd., to implement their monitoring, connectivity, and control solutions into this one-of-a-kind system. Users will practice with both the PLC and BorgConnect Hub and Node for different options to collect and monitor data for process control, machine monitoring, and energy optimization purposes. Users will also have the option to use PLC programming software for developing I/O control skills and the CESMII Smart Manufacturing Innovation Platform (SMIP) to practice information modeling, platform development, application configuration and analytics skills.
