A traditional apprenticeship is 3-4 years. [FAME produces skilled workers] in five semesters or about 18 months.” For students, he notes that “they get, at the end, instead of graduating with an Associate’s Degree with no experience, they graduate with at least 1,800 hours of work experience on top of the Associate’s Degree.” Washtenaw Community College FAME students appreciate the unique nature of the program. For Caleb Pickinpaugh, the appeal of FAME is that “you get to apply practically everything you’re learning in the classroom immediately right after.” Fellow student Rick Brooks agrees: “Everything I’ve learned here has translated directly to the real world. It’s been awesome.” Be sure to check out the links above to learn more about NEINFAME’s program at Ivy Tech and Amatrol’s unique training systems, which are helping train the advanced manufacturing technicians of the future!
